Celebrity 2025 - Episode 2 recap

If week one was about settling in, week two was about waking up. The race from Flores, Guatemala to El Zonte, El Salvador came with a worrying new rule: no travel after dark due to safety concerns. This forced the teams to race hard during daylight hours, at least when they were allowed to race at all...

The teams faced a strategic split immediately, choosing between staying in Guatemala or heading out through Belize and Honduras.

Front runners Anita & Bal chose the direct route through Guatemala, a decision that backfired spectacularly when national strikes took down the country’s road network and blocked their travel. They started so confidently with their massive 23-hour lead, but while the others were still relaxing (and bonding) at the checkpoint, the two were already being kicked of a bus to Cobán as protesters sat in the road. Making their way to the Guatemalan highlands, they ended up stuck waiting for the protests to end, before splashing cash on a taxi to make up lost time.

To recoup the taxi funds, they took a job at a bar in Quetzaltenango. Watching Bal pull pints was a highlight though, especially when he opened up about his past bankruptcy, noting, “You’ve got to swallow your pride to earn that money”. They might have bled time, but their resilience is undeniable.

Somehow Roman & Harleymoon had a better time despite a very similar plan. Roman’s gut feeling was to stick to Guatemala and also head to Coban, but the siblings decided to work for bed and board in the nature reserve Punta de Chimino which must have taken them off the more blocked roads.

The pair connected with some revelations about their mutual respet for each other, although it's clear their differences still keep them somewhat distant. The mocking sibling dynamic returned quickly in Antigua, with Harleymoon christening Roman "Captain Shoestrings" after they spent four hours wandering around trying to save a fiver on a hostel! As a team they seem to support each other very well so far, but it feels like they might have a real blow up before the race ends.

"I never thought it would be this hard to get through a country. It's wild." - Roman

Much more on the same page were Molly & Tyler who were off living their best lives. They headed to Belize to connect with their Caribbean heritage, and honestly - mostly to eat.

"Food's like our love language." - Tyler

They worked in a restaurant in Hopkins Beach, where the food looked incredible and they admitted their weakness is spending money on eating. And they weren't joking. After taking an expensive boat to Honduras , they realised they’d "gone a little bit overboard on food" and had to walk across the border to El Salvador because they couldn't afford a cab. A risky strategy, but at least they were well-fed.

"I can't be going through a border crossing with no food in my belly." - Tyler

They are working well as a team, but don't seem to have hit major challenges yet, and when the budget starts to bite it's not clear how these two will get on.

Finally, we have Dylan & Jackie. Last week's "Team Tortoise" found some sort speed, but also remained gloriously incompetent at core parts of the format. They unknowingly dodged the protests by heading to Honduras, sort of "working" on cacao and tobacco farms, while also reveling in the lack of sight lines between the trees.

I might have a sit down. - Dylan
Shall we get sacked and get on the race? - Jackie
You don't sweat, so you're not working hard enough. - Their boss Rowley

But while they still give the impression they may never have seen this show before, they remain a highlight - their early discussion with the group about the loss of Dylan's older brother James explained more about why they were doing this at all, and showed the deep connection the two have. We also got a glimpse of Dylan’s dating life (or lack thereof) when Jackie tried to wingman him with a local farmer's daughter. They seem to be having the most genuine travel experience, bonding with locals and soaking it in, and somehow are not as far behind as you'd expect.

El Zonte

Heading into the checkpoint and things were somehow a real nail-biter. The teams had to find a "bird carved into rock" on the beach which caused confusion and some excellent mimes. Anita & Bal had lost their big advantage, so if felt like anyone could win - yet somehow the results ended up the same as last week!

Anita & Bal saw their advantage decimated from 23 hours to just 3.5 hours, but only 22 minutes separate the trailing three teams and the crawling Dylan & Jackie are only four minutes behind the feasting Molly and Tyler. And while Captain Shoestrings might be annoying Harelymoon, the siblings have easily the most money remaing, giving them a very good chance to make up the few hours gap.
