Race Across the World Series 5
Race Across the World returns on April 23rd for a fifth series of the 'regular' show - five normal couples take on the challenge of racing across the world with no phones, credit cards or GPS and a tight budget as they race to win a £20,000 prize.
What do we know about the route?
This year the teams will be racing over 14,000km from the foot of the Great Wall of China, in a village 80km north of Beijing, to the southernmost tip of India at the joining place of three mighty seas.
The route will take them through China's bustling cites and ancient and villages, through the heart of the Himalayas in Nepal, and through nearly half of India's 28 states, where each feels like a different country with its own traditions, culture and landscapes.
What will be the biggest challenges?
The lack of technology might be a big challenge in China - WeChat pay is used extensively, so without phones they might struggle to get tickets for the fastest trains. Nepal and India might be more cash run, but with over 700 different languages in India communication is likely to be a real challenge.
But with a budget based on the flight cost for the same route, this years biggest problem might be the money - with only just over £1,000 per person it's the lowest budget on the show so far!
Who are the teams?
This year the teams include a teenage couple from Wales keen to explore the world beyond Carmarthen, age-gaped sisters who have traveled a lot (but not together!) and a "formerly married couple" who ran a Chinese takeaway together - so might have a language advantage, as long as their relationship stays strong.
There's also a mother and son, and two 60 year old brothers who've barely spent any time together since childhood!
More will be posted as the BBC releases more about the couples.
Will the Prediction game run again?
Absolutely! Once again we'll be opening predictions before each episode, so you can lock in which team you think will win each checkpoint and place your final episode tokens to predict who you think will be the series winner.
